I first joined Brewhouse & Kitchen in 2019 as a front-of-house team member. During this time I was still at University studying Music Production. My front-of-house role was a way for me to earn some money and gain experience during my studies. In May of 2020, I graduated from University and started working more hours in my role.
After working at Brewhouse & Kitchen for two years in the pub, an opportunity came up within the kitchen team. At this point I had been managing the bar and running beer and gin masterclasses with up to 30 pub guests at a time, so working in the kitchen was very different. Under the guidance of the Head Chef at the time, I took the role of Sous Chef in January 2022. With help and training from my Head Chef, my culinary skills and operational skills grew.
I discovered I had a passion and love for food, and it was my respect for the industry and self-value within the company that motivated me to enrol myself on a Level 3 Senior Production Chef Apprenticeship with the full support of Brewhouse and Kitchen. I had started my apprenticeship course in November 2022 and this solidified for me how brilliant the career development opportunities were in the company, having guided me into a career in the kitchen that I now thoroughly enjoy.
In January of 2024, I successfully completed my Level 3 Apprenticeship and was then promoted to Head Chef in Bristol. Looking forward from here, I’ll learn to finesse my skills and look out for those senior head chef roles within Brewhouse & Kitchen. I also want to mentor and train others to succeed within hospitality. People join the hospitality industry not knowing what opportunities companies like Brewhouse & Kitchen can provide, but I’m confident that I can convince anyone who shows an interest in Hospitality that there’s a career in it… I mean just look where it got me!
