WORKFORCE HERO

Sam Christmas

The Plough, East Sheen
Sam has been recognised as a Workforce Hero for being a stand-out member of the hospitality workforce, as well as the Front of House Hospitality Apprentice Hero 2025.

Having been with Fuller’s for 10 years and being inspired from the age of 18 by his then GM, Richard, Assistant Manager Sam is now completing his L4 Hospitality Manager Apprenticeship, which includes modules on leadership, business strategy, financials, guest experience, people management and compliance. Balancing the apprenticeship with his role as Assistant Manager has been tough, and Sam took the brave decision to put pause on his apprenticeship and attend an AA 12 step programme, recognising that he needed to either give up his career ambitions, or give up drinking alcohol. With the support of the programme, his pub team, his workplace coach Seb and the wider support at Fuller’s, he is now back on track. GM Sophie talks about how resilient Sam is and how the apprenticeship has turned his life around – and all of Sam’s colleagues talk of his courage and determination to succeed, leading and training others despite the challenges that he has faced.  Sam shows the true value of apprenticeships, and how they can change and shape lives.
